End of Season Tournaments

We have the opportunity to enter 2 end of season tournaments. We would like your feedback on this and to know your availability asap so we can arrange.

On 18th April a tournament is held at Luctonians RFC, near Ludlow. This would be a day trip, with coaches picking up the Mumbles teams (9s, 10, 11 and 12s are going) at the rugby club at about 8:00 in the morning. It is then a 2 hour drive to Luctonians, with the tournament starting about 11:00. It is all over by about 16:00, with the coach aiming to pick us up at about 17:30 to return to the clubhouse at 19:30. So it is a long day (and not ideal for the car sick!). The cost of the tournament will be roughly £25 per player (which includes registration and travel for player and accompanying parent).

The following week (25th April) we have the Penclawdd tournament. This is an all day event starting at about 11:00, a round-robin tournament involving Gowerton, Fall Bay, South Gower, Penclawdd and Swansea Uplands. This tournament is free to enter for the players.

Please let us know your thoughts and availability for both dates, by sending Mike an e-mail at m.b.gravenor@swan.ac.uk or txt 07846 962334 or at training on Wednesday.

Match Reports

All a bit of a shambles this morning, with the late cancellation at Penclawdd. Well done everyone for making it back to Bishopston. Luckily Swansea Uplands were more than happy to play two games and all the boys got a full match at last! Thanks again to Paul and his team for playing the whole morning in the right spirit. Cracking games too, with Ups clearly being the best side we have played so far. All the boys stepped up to the challenge though, and all the 4 halves were closely fought. In the end, Uplands deservedly came up on top (3-6, 5-6). The boys need to learn from the match, that straight running and quick passing win matches. Along with not turning your back on the opposition! There were plenty of positives though. There was some fantastic tagging from Luca, Luke and Dylan, some great passing throughout the side, and good yards made going forward by Tom R, Eddie and Myles. Josh R's enthusiasm was rewarded by a great debut try. As the boys develop as players we want them to enjoy tough games like this whatever the result As one of the dad's commented at the end "that was a proper game of rugby".

See you Wednesday at Astroturf, 4:30.

Can everyone bring in their 6 Nations competition forms this week please (having sold them all of course!)

Sunday 24th Jan: Match Plans

Slight change of plans - Penclawdd have asked us to come a bit earlier, so those going to Penclawdd please meet there at 10:00 (for 10:30 KO). Those going to Bish still meet at 10:30 (11:00 KO).

We have a fixture at Penclawdd this Sunday. But in light of the great turn out at training we have organised another match to be played at Bishopston and will split the squad. Our aim is to increase the game time for all the players, as we know it can be frustrating to travel on a Sunday morning and not play for very long.

As that this is an 'away' fixture weekend (even though some are going to Bishopston), there will NOT be hotdogs at the MCC.

Please let Mike know if you are not available this weekend 07846 334962.

Wildcats vs Penclawdd. Meet at Penclawdd 10:00 for 10:30 KO.
Coach: Ian
Team: Sam, Eddie, Lloyd, Myles, Cam, Ethan, Luke, Duncan, Tom Ch, Connor

For those going to Penclawdd, the match is played on Graig- Y -Coed playing fields. Head west along the Gowerton / Penclawdd road (B4295). Keep on the main road road and drive through the centre of Penclawdd. Just when you are coming out of Penclawdd (heading towards Llanrhidian), the playing fields are up on the bank on your left. There is a big tall fence all round the grounds. You can either drive up into the playing fields, or park on the grass bank if it is busy.

Wildcats vs Swansea Uplands. Meet at Bishopston at 10:30 for 11:00 KO.
Coach: Mike and Matt
Team: Joshua Rupasingh, Tom R, Arthur, Ike, Luca, Dylan, Jacob, Josh B, Owen, Jamie

Training and 6 Nations Ball

Training - Astroturf 4:30 Wednesday as usual

Something for the parents. The under 12s side run a very successful 6 Nations Ball every year. The format is tables of 10, at the Dragon Hotel, Saturday 6th March, £35 per ticket (with proceeds going to the under 12s), meal, guest speaker (of the rugby variety) and music from The Contenders, dress is black tie.

Although most of the tables are organised by the 12s, there are usually several tables representing other age groups. However, I've just heard from Huw that tickets are disappearing quickly, so if anyone is keen on snapping up a ticket and making up a table from the Wildcats, then please send me a text asap: 07846 334962.

Penlan 6 Mumbles Wildcats 14

The Wildcats found one of the few grounds in Swansea fit to play rugby on this morning, thanks to the mountain top conditions at Mynydd Newydd. We had a warm welcome as always from Penlan, who generously agreed to a long match, despite being short of a few regular players. This allowed all the boys to get some game time, with Matthew providing the quadratic rolling subs formula. The boys were sharp on their return to action despite the traditional winter Monsoon/Christmas/Arctic break. They were mean in defence, and Arthur, Tom R, Dylan, Ethan, Sam (a hat-trick performance!), Duncan, Owen and Luke went over for scores. Also mentioned in dispatches are Jamie and Tom Ch for passing before contact, Luke for an outstanding tagging effort and Cam for shouting out to organise the defence. Myles once again served notice to the opposition that Mumbles will be ready for contact next season. Well done everyone, see you on Wednesday for Astroturf.

Coaching comment of the week: develop team work. In defence by spreading out, and in attack by looking to make a good pass.

Wednesday Astroturf Training -CANCELLED

Sorry everyone. Astroturf training tonight is cancelled. It is far too cold for the poor parents to stand around for an hour.

There is some hope for the weekend, and if the weather warms up a bit we will be playing away at Penlan.

Friday 8 January 2010

Sunday 10th - Match OFF

As expected there will be no rugby this weekend. We'll see how the weather goes next week.

Friday 1 January 2010

Sunday 3rd MATCH OFF

A nice early decision from Waun, and tomorrow's match is now cancelled. Their pitch is frozen and will be unplayable.

No astroturf this week (it starts on Wednesday 13th). So a leisurely start to the new year with next week's away match on Sunday 10th against Morriston. Details will be posted during the week.
