Ponty Report

The Wildcats took on Pontardawe for the first time this morning. It turned out to be one of the most entertaining matches of the year. Ponty's passing game against the Mumbles runners. The experiment with 'scrum half' and 'first receiver' was a success. No players got in each others way for a change! Well done to all the boys who took their roles so seriously this week. Scrummies Lloyd, Cam, Ike and Sam and especially the boys who did all the hard work taking the ball up the middle: Josh, Myles, Eddie and Owen. We'll try and give everyone a go in these positions in the final weeks of the season. Everyone got their hands on the ball. There was some great passing from Luke and Luca that lead to scores for the likes of Ike (3), Dylan (5), Owen, Lloyd (2), TR, Duncan (2) and Sam (3). Lastly, not to forget the tagging with several tries saved with the 6th tag just short of the try line. Thanks to Ian and his Ponty team for playing two games, both in great spirit. A fixture to look forward to next season.

Fall Bay Match Report

A lovely morning at Fall Bay today. A good half-term turn out for the Wildcats, with Tom R, Dylan, Luca, Sam, Luke, Ethan, Josh, Lloyd, Ike, Jamie and Duncan taking the field. FB ran just ran out winners in a very close game. With no room on the pitch, Mumbles played an excellent passing game and dominated possession, and were unlucky not to add to their 4 tries. Luca, Ike and Dylan forced their way over with Duncan scoring the try of the morning. Two hands on the ball at all times (someone's been watching James Hook) and a lovely sidestep before riding the 'tackle' and crashing over the line. Thanks to our hosts for a warm welcome, and the boys enjoyed donning the yellow jersey for a mixed run around with the 7s at the end. Fall Bay gets the award for best after-match cakes of the season.

Training at Underhill on Wednesday 4:30.

Match Report - Vardre

WildCats 16 Vardre 18

Walking out onto the Bishopston pitches was a real treat this morning, with some warmth in the early spring sunshine - lets hope for many more Sunday mornings like this!

Our visitors today were Vardre, a team we had yet to encounter. We played four quarters to enable players from both teams to have as much game time as possible.

Both teams were equally matched, with a ding dong score line finally finishing with Vardre coming out winners by two scores. The difference today was the Wildcats not getting into postions in defence quickly enough and then ball watching. We are all also guilty of squabbling over who is going to have a run after the oppostion score. If we got into position and concentrated on getting 6 tags every time we are defending, then we would all have more opportunities to run and attack them. Our ability to score tries as always remains consistent. Scores today came from Dylan, Ethan, Josh R, Luke, Arthur, Jamie, Owen and Tom R.

Thanks to Dave Charles for successfully rotating the subs on and off smoothly, not an easy job!

Uplands Match Report

Another cracking fixture this morning, with the ever keen Uplands back in force. Paul's fine team clearly set the standard 2 weeks ago, and the boys knew what they were up against this time, responding with a committed display. Everyone should be proud of their performances, capped by a welcome return to action from Ike and a superb display on the wing from Dylan. Passing improved noticeably throughout the team, Myles getting on the end of a great move for a lovely try. But in such a physical encounter perhaps the highlight, and the last word in the game, went to Eddie, for finding the most direct route to the try line.

Coaching tip of the day: Do not be chopsy to the opposition.

Lottery - a Winner!
Thanks to everyone for helping with the lottery. As it is new, here are some details. This is very important for the junior section, as it is our only real fund-raising venture. Unlike many clubs, we don't have a bar next to the pitch where raffles etc usually take place. So if everyone can take a turn, on a home match, to go round the spectators, that would be very helpful for the team. We don't want it to be just the regulars chipping in, but rather make the most from the very large number of supporters that always come to Bishopston on a Sunday.

As an incentive, not only do we hope to build a very large jackpot, but the lottery was actually WON this afternoon! In only the second week, £125 went to a very happy member of the 1st XV. The prize next week should be bigger again.
