Christmas Party Sunday 23rd

It's the holiday season, and the Wildcats Christmas event is upon us. The plan is to meet at Dynamic Rock in Clydach this Sunday at 10:00 and get going on the climbing wall pretty much straight away. We will be finished by 12:30 (for those heading to footie). There is a cafe there for snacks and tea and coffee. All equipment is provided.

We have paid in advance, so please be there and help us get a good turn out for the team.

Directions and contact details are:

Neath Round Robin - CANCELLED

Two matches this weekend at Neath. First Neath Athletic, then Cwmavon. All squad meet at 9:30 at Cwrt Herbert Playing fields (on Neath Abbey Road, next to the Neath Port Talbot College and Dwr y Felin School).

Not surprisingly with all the rain in the last 24 hours, tomorrow's matches at Neath are off. Shame with two games planned. That is it for rugby before the new year, but don't forget the Xmas event next week. If you have not replied to teamer please do so NOW. We will have to collect the £10 from most on the day, which is fine, but I do have to pay in advance for a certain number of climbing coaches for our group, so make sure you are there or the team will be out of pocket! See you in Clydach at 10:00. Directions to follow this week.

We will also get a beach match vs the parents going in between Christmas and the New Year whenever there is some decent weather and a low tide.

Monday 10 December 2012

Ball Boys Required

Kieran is looking for volunteer ball boys from the Wildcats to help out at St Helens during the Swansea RFC home matches. The next match is Saturday 22nd December at 2:30 (vs Bedwas) then there is Saturday 5th Jan again at 2:30 (vs Cardiff). Anyone who is keen can contact Kieran or Adrian at training or send a text to Jill on 07789 866601.

Sunday 9 December 2012

Xmas Plans

Thanks very much to the Vikings for stepping in and giving us a game this Sunday. Probably an even tougher one than we had originally scheduled so a real work out for the Wildcats who had to be very switched on throughout.

Next week we are all at Neath, for a round robin with Neath and Cwmavon.

The week after we have the Xmas Climbing event. I have to pay for it this week, so please let me know ASAP if you can make it or not. It will be £10 per player and we will collect the money this Friday at Astroturf and next Sunday at Neath. A good turn out would be great for team building. Dec 23rd 10:00 at Clydach.

Sunday 2 December 2012

Gorseinon Match 9th Dec

Next match is Gorseinon at home. We have rotated the whole squad over the 2 weekends, so the full team for Sunday is:

Front Row: Cai, Connor, Myles
Back Row: Jack, Harry
Half Backs: Fin, Oli
Centres: Jacob, Kieran
Wings: TTS, Tom H,
Full Back: Neil

Latch Charity Support

Thanks very much to all those who supported the under 14s sponsored walk this morning. They have been raising money for the Latch Welsh Children's Cancer Charity, on behalf of Dylan Gunner, a committed Mumbles player since under 7s. We will have another collection at the home match next Sunday at Bishopston.

Thursday 29 November 2012

Xmas Climbing Trip

Our Christmas event this year will take place on Sunday 23rd December at the Dynamic Rock Climbing Wall in Clydach. We have arranged for an introductory 2 hour session for the boys, with climbing, abseiling and bouldering. We have organised a special introductory rate from the centre so the cost will be £10 per player, which will include some snacks. We will meet at 10:00 at the Centre, and should be finished at about 12:30. Please check your availability and let me know by teamer so we can tell the Club how many are coming, and we can start collecting the cash. It would be great for the team to have a good turn out and do something other than rugby for a change.

Click here to link to DYNAMIC ROCK for in info

Those wondering about the annual parents match. Don't worry, we will do this over the xmas break on the beach!

Up Coming Matches

Don't forget Astroturf training on Friday, 4:30 - 5:30.

We are splitting the squad over the next two home matches. We don't want too many subs hanging around now it is getting really cold. After that, the last match of 2012 will be a round robin at Neath with the whole squad invited.

Team for Loughor is (so far) given below. Team for Gorseinon (home) will be all those who didn't play this weekend. Loughor team meet at Bishopston at 10:30.

Team vs Loughor (2nd December)

Front Row: Owen, Tom R, Josh
Back Row: Cam, Ethan

100 Club

A message from Robin, our Junior Chairman. If anyone is interested please let Mike know and he will get you an application form to set up the standing order.

Hi All

I am not sure if you are aware of the 100 club started by Gareth Bennett.

For £10.00 per month you will be entered for a quarterly draw for £500.00 (there has already been 2 winners ) and £50.00 every other month. There will also be 4  lunches each year. All profits will go to rugby matters, ie the beach rugby kit was purchased from this fund . An application form is attached and I would appreciate if this can be passed to as many parents, grandparents, social contacts etc.
If you have any queries please contact Gareth or myself.

Thanks  Robin

Uplands Match - OFF

Don't forget training at Astroturf this Friday 4:30

Unsurprisingly the match is OFF tomorrow. No chance of play with the pitches soaked.

On Fridays we are going to stick to Astroturf EVERY WEEK. It worked well sharing with the u13s so we won't bother with the park unless the weather dramatically improves.

This weekend we are at Swansea Uplands. The match will be played on the Fairwood Lane pitch, just off Gower Road. This is the pitch you pass on the way to the Uplands clubhouse and main pitches, which are all out of action due to re-developments. Ups send their apologies for no food after the match as the clubhouse is closed.

We will have two matches. The first kicking off at 10:45. Whole squad is invited, teams will be posted here later. If everyone meets at 10:30 we can have a quick warm up.

Saturday 17 November 2012

No Match This Weekend

Hendy don't have an u11s, and we have texted everywhere without any luck in finding a game, so it is a week off for all.

Back in training on Friday at 4:30 at astroturf.

After last night at the park we have decided to move the park training to 4:30 as well. Sorry this is early, but it is consistent with the astroturf and will also allow us to play in front of the changing rooms before the under 16s arrive. This part of the park is in much better condition than the swings area which was a bog even after a pretty low rainfall week.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO USE THE AMAZON LINK! We get 5% back on all purchases, so with 25 boys and all their brothers and sisters to buy for over the next few weeks that should be a tidy little earner for the team.

Monday 12 November 2012

Training at Underhill

Remember we are alternating park with astroturf on Fridays, so it is back to Underhill this week. We will be training under the lights 5:00 till 6:00. It is a bit awkward to have a different start time to astro, but a little less rush to be there for 5:00.

This weekend we will rotate the players and pick a matrix team as only 1 normal length game is an option. Teamer will go out ASAP.

Remember the Mum's lunch next Saturday

Friday 9 November 2012

Waunarlwydd Away 10:00 Meet

Our match at Waun has been moved to a 10:00 meet (10:30 KO). This is so we can play on their main pitch, so good news with all the rain about.

Friday training at ASTROTURF 4:30 prompt

We have the formidable challenge of Waunarlwydd this weekend. Due to the high chance of cancellations this time of year, and because Waun have agreed to a long (3 halves) match, we can invite all the boys to take part to give them some rugby. Meet at Waun RFC at 10:30.

Coming up..... please pencil in the morning of Sunday Dec 23rd for our Christmas Event, which will be a session at the climbing wall in Clydach . Details to follow. This will be instead of the usual parents match, which will still take place, but will be moved to the beach and will take place over the Xmas hols.

Saturday 3 November 2012

Kenfig Hill Match Off

No rugby this Sunday as the pitches at Bishopston are not playable after all the heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

In good time we have booked some astroturf sessions. These will run on Friday evenings at Ashleigh Road from 4:30 to 5:30. Starting next Friday (9th). We are sharing the booking with the u13s, so will have the astroturf every other week. We will alternate Fridays at Astro with, hopefully, Fridays under the lights at the park so we can include contact sessions (these will run at 5-6 as normal). We know it is an early start at astro, but this is the only available slot. We would be very grateful if everyone could try and get there for 4:30 on the dot so we can make the most of the booking. Anyone needing lift shares can let me know and we can try and match people up.

Friday 2 November 2012

Plan for Winter...

Unfortunately we decided to cancel training for this afternoon due to Underhill Park being a mud bath and heavy showers forecast for the remainder of the day.

With the winter months now upon us, training will be moved to the AstroTurf at Ashleigh Road. The first session for this will be Friday 9th November, time to be confirmed on here during the week. Please check back for updates during the week.

Match still on for Sunday at Bishopston, see you there at 10.30.

Thursday 25 October 2012

The Contenders at the Rock

Up and coming this weekend....

Training on Friday, Underhill at 5.

Match on Sunday at Bish, meet 10:30 (Matrix team below)

FRIDAY NIGHT OUT
The Contenders are playing at the Rock and Fountain this Friday night.
It is free entry, but the gig is for Margaret Thrush and her Macmillan Charity fundraising efforts. So she's sure to relieve you of any change in your pocket...

Thursday 18 October 2012

Three Big Games

Training on Friday as usual. 5:00 Underhill.

Coming up over the next 3 weekends we have games against new, and really strong opposition. From the West have Llanelli Wanderers then Furnace and from the East we have Kenfig Hill. They are all at home, with 11:00 kick off (meet 10:30 to warm up) so nice and easy organisation. We will run 3 matrix teams that will be published here asap. It will be great to welcome some new faces for a change, and a real challenge for the boys on the field.

Tuesday 9 October 2012

Training and Gowerton Match

Training on Friday at 5:00 as usual. We will be sending out Teamer invites for training now, mainly because it is easier to cancel in the event of loads of rain at the last minute!

Match for everyone on Sunday against Gowerton. Meet at Bish at 10:30. We don't have 2 games, but Gowerton have a big squad as well so have kindly agreed to play a long match over 3 thirds so everyone can play.

Tuesday 2 October 2012

Gorseinon Match 7th Oct

FRIDAY TRAINING OFF! Pitch is waterlogged at Underhill sorry.

Next Sunday's match is away at Gorseinon. Teamer invites will go out asap. Please respond. Note the slightly earlier start than usual. Meet at Gorseinon at 10:00.

The matrix team is:

Forwards: Cai, Owen, Myles, Connor, Jack, Harry, Tom R
Backs: Fin, Duncan, Ethan, Neil, Jacob, Sam, Tom H, TTS, Ike

Tuesday 25 September 2012

Home Match this week

Training is this Friday at 5:00 at Underhill as usual.

Match is at HOME against Pontarddulais, meet Sunday 10:30 at Bishopston. Matrix selection for the match has been sent by teamer and is given in the post underneath.

Tuesday 18 September 2012

The Matrix

(Training as usual Friday at 5:00. Boys just back from Borfa excused!)

We have loads of matches planned this year, and with the healthy squad numbers we are going to try and minimise standing around for the lads. So we introduce the Matrix. We feed the team names into a secret algorithm, which allocates players to matches equally, and in advance, for the next few games. The first second (!) iteration of the matrix has spoken, and teams for the next 3 Sundays are given below. After these matches we have Gowerton at home, which will be our traditional double header with all boys playing. So 1 weekend off in the next 4. After Gowerton we will crank up the Matrix again. Teamer invites will go out as usual midweek before each match. Please respond when you get the teamer text so that adjustments can be made if needed.

P.S. Well spotted on the bug in the programme. Cam should be in the Bont column, not Jack. Back to the drawing board.

Thursday 13 September 2012

Training Friday

Well done to all the lads and parents who made it up to Loughor through the traffic this week. A tough and good game I hear. There is training as usual at Underhill on Friday at 5:00. The match on Sunday is against Skewen at Bishopston. Meet 10:30. All those not at Loughor will be playing. Teamers will be sent out soon, please reply so we can fill in gaps as needed.

Monday 10 September 2012

Two Matches This Week

Plenty of rugby on offer this week, so potentially no standing around on the touchline. To do this we need to send a team to Loughor on THURSDAY for a kick off at 6:00. Please try and get there for 5:45 at the latest. I have sent round a teamer for the first set of 12 players. Please reply asap, so that others can be invited as spaces become available. The teamer for the Sunday match against Skewen will be sent out when the first match is all sorted, but will include all those not going to Loughor. Remember if everyone opts out of Thursday and then it will be half a game each on Sunday!

Sunday 9 September 2012

Thank you!

Thank you all for the gift for last seasons efforts! It is much appreciated by us all!

Mike, Ian and Matt

Thursday 6 September 2012

Friday Training

Friday 5:00 at Underhill. This will be our regular time (until it gets too dark).

Sunday, meet 10:30 at Bishopston for match against Dunvant. We have a new pitch for matches this year. It is away from the main set of fields, the one hidden at the other side of the school, on the right hand side as you immediately enter the car park.

Sunday 2 September 2012

It's good to be back....

Hopefully the weather this morning will not be a sign of things to come for the WildCats this season! Despite the difficult conditions the WildCats got off to a great start this morning. Here are my thoughts on the game;
  • I was particularly pleased to note that the WildCats kept their shape for all of the game, this is something that we have worked on and it was great to see the boys remembering to do this without much prompting.
  • Pressure was good on the opposition.
  • Passing was excellent for most of the game, especially given the conditions.
  • I was delighted the boys accepted the refereeing decisions with no comments or backchat. This is to be applauded and encouraged. We will come across many refs this season with varying interpretation of the rules by which we play. I feel it's important the boys develop the ability to alter their style of play according to the rules by which they are refereed.
  • Awareness of what's in front of the player ie. playing "heads up rugby".
There are still many things which we need to work on in training. As I said to the boys, it's important we get a big turn out to training so all players are able to know what we are working towards in games. We will be having regular training sessions from now on to improve all aspects of our games.

Training will be every Friday at 5:00.

For those who are interested, here is a link to the latest WRU Rugby Pathway which contains the rules by which we play.

Friday 31 August 2012

Back in action

Training today (Friday) at 5:00, which will be our regular time. Match at Morriston AWAY on Sunday. Meet 10:30.

So the season is upon us. We hope everyone enjoyed the summer and a good break. Here are the lads that made it to the summit of the highest mountain in the South of Britain...

Tuesday 28 August 2012

Team Walk

Forecast is good, so Walk in ON! A few hardy travellers will attempt the summit, any others still welcome. Details below.

Training resumes at our regular time of Fri 5:00 in prep for our first match at Morriston on Sunday

We are finishing off the summer with a team walk up Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the south.

Click HERE for the route we will be taking. It should take about 2.5 hours total, and although uphill, it is all on good wide paths. We will start the walk just after 11, so bring a picnic to eat at the summit. The forecast for Thursday is good, but we will not go if it changes to bad weather. However, even if it is sunny it is important to bring a jumper and a waterproof, just in case the weather changes quickly.

Any brothers, sisters, dogs, hangers-on, are welcome.

Meeting place: the car park in the woods off the A470, just before the Storey Arms (NOT the Storey Arms car park itself). For SATNAV, use the Storey Arms postcode: LD3 8NL. Drive out of Swansea towards Neath on the Heads of the Valleys Road (A465). At the Hirwaun roundabout (just before Aberdare) take the left turn on the A4059. After about 10 miles, join the A470 to Brecon at the reservoir. The Car Park is then about 1 mile up the road, on the right hand side, a few hundred metres BEFORE the Storey Arms. It should take about 1 hour to get there.

Meeting Time: 11:00 Thursday 30th August

Any questions, text Mike.

Wednesday 22 August 2012

Sunday 29 July 2012

No training early this week

Due to availability of coaches we will not have training Mon/Tues/Wed or Thurs this week.

Sunday 22 July 2012

Summer Training

We will try and get the boys together over the summer, with an emphasis on skills, fitness and team building. The first session is tomorrow (Monday) at 10:00 at Underhill Park. It will be sensible to bring trainers as well as togs. The ground might still be a bit soft after all the recent weather, but it could also dry up quite quickly and trainers would be much better under those conditions.

Don't worry if you can't make it and have other plans. It is the summer holidays after all. We will try and keep training to mornings, so the rest of the day is free.

Many thanks for all the support last week. Great to see the Wildcats in the garden!

Thursday 12 July 2012

Gardens Open

Sorry for hijacking this, and teamer, but as we are out of season I haven't had a chance to advertise this to everyone.....

Dear rugby friends,

This Sunday (15th July) our garden is open for the second year as part of the National Garden Scheme. This is a large charity (one of the biggest donors to Macmillan Cancer Support), and has quite a strict inspection process before it accepts a garden into the 'Yellow Book'. So it's been a lot of work, and is quite a big deal for us (or rather for Ceri who does almost all of it). It is not a big garden - but has a huge collection of perennial species. If anyone is around this Sunday to support, we are open between 2 and 6. Tea and homemade cakes for sale. All proceeds to NGS charities. £3 on the door (children free) which includes entry to another nearby garden. Address 5 Moorside Road SA3 5EY (just off West Cross Lane, there will be signs up). Last year we made > £1000 but with the weather not looking great we would be grateful of any support this time.

If you know any friends or family keen on gardens then please spread the word.

NGS link: HERE

Directions: HERE

We are open between 2 and 6. People are welcome at any time, but the first hour or so is usually by far the busiest.

Cheers - Mike

While we are here...plans for rugby over the summer are to start training as soon as school finishes. We will not have a fixed day, or venue, but will try and fit in sessions around the weather and other events. Aim is to keep the boys active, play touch rugby, and work on ball skills, before back into proper training at the end of August. Keep an eye on teamer.

Ospreys Season Tickets

Check out this offer for next year...LINK... For £165 you can get a season ticket for 2 adults and 4 children, plus a £25 voucher for the shop. Not bad. Early bird offer ends June 11.

Tuesday 8 May 2012

End of Season

Thanks everyone for the support all year. We saw off the season in style at Narberth and Heatherton, at least as soon as we got the confirmation that Cam was OK! Thanks to Ed at Narberth for the welcome and for the game played in the true spirit. And thanks to all the parents with the help organising, in advance and on the day. Thanks to the lads for truly excellent behaviour all day. You are a credit to the club.

We will take a proper break now, and come back to training fresh at the end of July/beginning Aug. We will organise an end of season get together at the club (or maybe at the park) at some point to hand out the team year photo and say a few words. This will either be at the end of May, or just before we start up again in July.

Mumbles Wildcats 2011-12. Played 38. Time for a rest.

Thursday 3 May 2012

Narberth Tour

Our final outing of the season this Sunday. For those travelling on the coach, we need to meet outside the rugby club at 08:30. If you are meeting us at Narberth please meet us there at 10:30. Directions HERE.

The plan for the day is:
08:30 Meet coach at Mumbles RFC. Leave by 9:00
10:30 Meet at Narberth RFC
11:00 Match vs Narberth
12:00 Bar at Narberth RFC
13:00 Leave Narberth for Heatherton
14:00 - 17:00 Activities at Heatherton
17:00 Leave for Pub
18:00 Meal at The Phoenix at Cross Hands
20:00 ish leave to return to Mumbles
21:00 ish Return to Mumbles
End of Season

It looks like the weather won't be great. This should not matter much at Narberth or at Heatherton, but can everyone make sure they have a full change of clothes after the match, in case the lads are very muddy, which won't go down too well with the coach company.

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Just one more match

********* The Contenders LIVE *********
At the rugby club on Saturday 28th April. Free entry.

Great result out at Lucton on Sunday. To bring home the Plate with a big group of boys is a superb achievement and reflects the efforts put in by all the Wildcats all season.

No match on Sunday, but we will have training on Friday 5:00 to 6:00.

Our last event will be Narberth on 6th May and we will need confirmation and payment from everyone. Can you please let us know your travel and food plans and bring the payment to training this Friday. If you are not coming to training we'd appreciate letting us know your options, and dropping the cash down if possible.

Our mini tour will take us by coach to Narberth for a friendly match in the morning. Then to Heatherton for activities in the afternoon, with a pub meal on the way back. The full tour is £25 per player (or accompanying youngster). This includes coach, tickets for 7 Heatherton activities, and the meal. Parents go free on the coach, can decide to join in at Heatherton by paying on the day, and can sort out their own meals at the pub. If you are meeting us at Narberth and just coming to Heatherton the cost is £11 per player. If you are meeting us, coming to Heatherton and having a meal the cost is £16. For the boys meals, can you also let us know whether you want Beefburger, Chicken Burger or Veggie Burger (mozzarella and mushroom) (all served with chips and salad. There is a large menu for adults). Helen and Herjeet will be collecting the cash and information on Friday. We had a superb teamer reply for this event, so we hope everyone is still available to finish off another successful season in style.

Lucton Trip

Friday training will start at 4:30 as lots are going to Shane Williams' last home Ospreys match (KO 7.05).

We have had a great teamer reply and lots of boys are available for hopefully another fun Lucton experience.

We have a decision on the travel arrangements, and we will car share on Sunday. Having done both in the past, there are benefits either way, but this year we just could not get a coach at a reasonable cost, and it would mean leaving very early in the morning, so we have gone for the flexible option.

Our destination is Kingsland, just before Leominster, HR6 9SB, and the Luctonians Sports Club. It is an 88 mile trip, but with the country roads at the end, it takes the best part of 2 hours. I will post the directions later and bring some maps to training on Friday.

For those who want to drive up in convoy we will meet at the car park at the bottom of sketty lane lights at 8:00. If you are going separately please try and be on the road by 8:30 so you are there by 10:30. The tournament starts at 11:00, although we may not be first up to play.

Please can everyone who is going to Lucton make sure they come to training on Friday (as we will introduce the English rules that we will be playing in Lucton).

Sunday 8 April 2012

Friday Training

April 13th. Morning training again. Underhill Park at 11:00.

Match vs Bont at Bishopston on Sunday 15th.

MEET AT BISH AT 10:30

Saturday 7 April 2012

Luctonians Tournament Plans

In 2 weeks we are off again to the Luctonians tournament. For those who have not been, it is an all day event at a great venue near Ludlow. It is a long and tiring day, but we have always got a lot out of the trip. We will firm up the plans nearer the time, but the day will look something like this...

Set off for Leominster at about 8:30.
Arrive about 10:30.
First game about 11:00
About 4 or 5 matches during the day
Leave about 5:00 and get back to mumbles about 7.

We have had a coach in the past, but have found that car sharing is better as we have some flexibility with leaving times at the end of the day and it is quite a lot quicker on the country roads to get there. We will try and organise the car share nearer the time.

Sign up on teamer for a crack at the English teams and some real scrummaging!

Monday 2 April 2012

Easter Plans

I don't usually post match reports, but I have to mention the great effort to get 2 sides out last weekend, and to be rewarded with excellent performances and away wins, a tight game against a very strong side and a stellar comeback after being 35 - 7 down at half time. Great character shown by everyone.

An Easter treat this Sunday - a WEEKEND OFF! No match on Sunday 8th.

But we will have a training session on FRIDAY MORNING at 10:30.

We then have the run in to the end of the season. The final regular fixture is 15th April vs Bont. Then we have the Lucton Tournament on the 22nd, a visiting team from Bristol on the 29th and our tour to Narberth on May 6th.

P.S. We are looking for a couple of volunteers to cover the first aid a bit more seriously from the beginning of next season.

Monday 26 March 2012

1st April

A good effort everyone, with a few people away we can fulfil both fixtures. So it is a full game for everyone and no subs. Good luck to the boys going to Bridgend with Math. I'll see the Gorseinon team at 10:30 prompt. With a little rearrangement we have:

Team vs Gorseinon (away). Meet 10:30
Forwards: Owen, Myles, TTS, Tom H
Backs: Arthur, Jacob, Sam, Dylan, Neil

Gorseinon RFC is pretty much in the middle of Gorseinon. Directions click here.

Team vs Bridgend Athletic (away) Meet 10:30
Forwards: Jack, Tom R, Harry, Kieran, Cam
Backs: Fin, Luca, Ethan, Lloyd, Ike

We have not been to Bridgend Athletic before. Should not take long to get there on a Sunday morning. Directions click here. They play at the 'Newbridge Fields' ground. MAP.

Saturday 24 March 2012

Morriston Match

A home match this weekend against Morriston. Please meet at Bishopston at 10:00.

More Tour Information
We have had a brilliant response to the Narberth Day Out at the end of the season, with almost everyone coming. We have booked the coach, and there is room for those who have already asked for an extra supporter seat (Josh, Kieran, Jacob). If anyone else needs more than 2 seats (player + 1) you need to let me know asap, we still have a few spares. We will try and get the final details circulated, and will be collecting the costs over the next couple of weeks.

Ystradgynlais 2 games

We have some new visitors to Bishopston this weekend, who we have not played before. Ystradgynlais are travelling down with 2 teams, so we need to give them a good sporting welcome.

We will play 2 separate teams, which I will post up later when we know attendence. But it is best for us all to meet at 10:15 so we can warm up and get organised.

Don't forget hot food back at the clubhouse afterwards.

Laws of the game

As we all witnessed this morning, sometimes it can be a very difficult task being a referee. Currently if it wasn't for Mike, we wouldn't have a qualified person to ref the matches, this is something everyone needs to remember.

At the level the Wildcats are playing it would be feasible for the ref to blow his whistle for around 90% time around the tackle area. This is because the game has so many areas the plyers need to become familar with. It is important that players and spectators understand that the development of teams would be curtailed if the referee was "whistle happy". Striking a balance between the two teams has to be the key for all stakeholders, players, spectators and coaches alike. This is something I believe Mike does particularly well.

For those interested, the WRU publication, Rugby Pathway; Minis to Millenium can be downladed here. http://www.wru.co.uk/downloads/WRU-PDF-Games-Pathway_Booklet.pdf It shows the stages of development and rules with which we play.

As usual, all players today showed commitment and desire. Everyone can be very pleased with their contribution towards a successful morning for the Wildcats. Training Friday, onwards and upwards.

2 Matches coming up

Training on Friday at Underhill, 4:30.

We have a nice run in towards the end of the season with lots of matches to look forward to and most of them at Bishopston.

This Sunday there are 2 full games. Skewen and Loughor. We will pick a team for each and send the teamers out later in the week.

Tuesday 14 February 2012

Half Term Plans

Training on Friday, 4:30.

Match at home against Dunvant on Sunday. As we have had some interruptions due to the weather we will invite the whole squad to this match. Meet at bishopston at 10:30.

Thursday 9 February 2012

Weekend Plans - NO RUGBY ON SUNDAY

It was a total mudbath on Friday night, and very cold. So with low temperatures expected over Saturday night and no scheduled match we think it is better to call off the rugby now so everyone can make other plans. We hope to be back to normal next week if it warms up a bit.

End of season date for the diary - Sunday of first bank holiday in May (6th). Wildcats Jolly Boys' Outing. Details for the annual beano to follow.

Weekend Plans - Game ON

Game on at FALL BAY. Meet 10:30 AT FALL BAY (scurlage
SA3 1BA)
Arthur, Sam, Owen, Josh, Cam, Ethan, Lloyd, Dunc, Luca

Friday Training is OFF. The pitch is frozen solid and yesterday it did not defrost at all during the day. Best make the early call and cancel.

This is the team for Sunday. The way it is going there is a good chance of cancellation, so please keep an eye on blog. Some of the weather forecasts are predicting rain on Saturday, which might well soften up the ground, in which case the game should be on. Still, we are keeping this to small numbers for obvious reasons.... Fall Bay Team (if it warms up a bit)....Arthur, Ike, Dylan, Owen, Josh, Cam, Ethan, Lloyd, Dunc, Luca.

Mid Week Match - OFF AGAIN!

Sorry all. Just heard from Matthew that the pitch at Gorseinon is too hard to play on, and especially with very cold temperatures expected once it gets dark it is definitely best to Cancel. We will play this match at some point (but also definitely not next Wednesday).

Directions HERE.

Any problem with lifts please contact Mike (text: 07846 334 962).

Forwards: Harry, Myles, Jack, Connor, Kieran, Tom R
Backs: Fin, Luke, Neil, Sam, TTS, Jacob

Lost Training Top!

Did anyone pick up Dylan's Training Top at the South Gower game at Bishopston last week? It looks like all the other ones, but has Dylan's Initials (D something C) on the front. I don't think it was left down there so can everyone please check their rugby bags just in case you picked it up. Given Mike a text if you find it (07846 334962).

Well done to the lads who braved the mud this morning. We found new teams to play against, and both short matches were very evenly balanced.

Weekend Plans

SUNDAY UPDATE!

The Skewen match is off (waterlogged pitch). So far things are looking OK for the Briton Ferry match. As we did not have training we will invite all to this match, but there will only be one game unfortunately. So if you are struggling to get there, don't worry as we will have plenty of players. The good news is another team, Abercrave are coming, which will be fun, but due to pitch availability we will only be able to play a short (half) match against each of them, with some training on the sidelines in between.

All meet at Briton Ferry at 10:15. Directions: basically through Briton Ferry centre and up the hill on the right. Map HERE.

Training details.... We will be moving back to the park on Fridays for training, but with the bad weather and the pitch at Underhill already a mess we won't bother this week. Next week we will have to start back at training at 4 - 5, because of the light. As soon as we can we will move to 4:30 as the light improves, and will aim long term to have the 5 - 6 slot as our standard training time.

Monday 23 January 2012

Mid Week Match - OFF

Just heard from Gorseinon that today's match is OFF

Sorry about the late notice, they were OK yesterday, but the rain all today did the damage. We hope to rearrange - same team, same players, for next Wednesday.

Great performance on Sunday. All the coaches were very impressed that we could field two full sides that could both dominate in the way they did.

The invites for the midweek match have gone out. If anyone has transport issues, text Mike and we can arrange some lift sharing.

Meet 5:45 (latest) at Gorseinon RFC (directions HERE, it is pretty much in the middle of Gorseinon) on WEDNESDAY:
Forwards: Jack, Myles, Harry, Kieran, Tom R, Connor
Backs: Finn, Sam, Neil, Dylan, Luke, Jacob

Thursday 19 January 2012

Weekend Plans

P.S. don't forget food provided back at the clubhouse afterwards....

Slight change of plan for the week, and a complicated selection. We have had a call from South Gower and they have built up their squad size and are keen on playing 1.5 matches (three 15 min periods). This won't be possible for the midweek match at Gorseinon, which will be normal length and where we will only want to take 1 team. So we will split the teams as follows: all invited on Sunday, but majority of the match (30 mins) will be played by one set of players. The others will sub on and off and get some game time (15 mins). These players will then play the whole match on Wednesday. I hope this makes sense. We understand if players would rather the morning off and concentrate on Wednesday. God knows if this will go to plan on the day - but that is what we are trying to do. Maximise game time and balance sides.

Meet at 10:00 at Bishopston for a warm up and to sort the teams out.

"Full match" (2 periods) on Sunday: TTS, Owen, Josh, Cam, Luca, Arthur, Duncan, Ike, Lloyd, Ethan
"Subs" on Sunday (1 period): Jack, Harry, Finn, Myles, Neil, Tom R, Sam, Jacob, Kieran, Connor, Luke

Full match at Gorseinon on Wednesday: Dylan, Jack, Harry, Finn, Myles, Neil, Tom R, Sam, Jacob, Kieran, Connor, Luke

Friday 13 January 2012

Teams for Gowerton

This Sunday (15th) TWO FULL matches against the big Gowerton squad. These matches will be played on the same pitch, so we have staggered the meeting times to avoid hanging around.

First Game. Meet at 10:00.
Forwards: TTS, Owen, Tom H, Josh, Tom R, Jacob
Backs: Arthur, Dunc, Ike, Lloyd, Dylan, Danny

Second Game. Meet at 10:30.
Forwards: Jack, Myles, Harry, Ki, Cam, Connor
Backs: Fin, Luca, Ethan, Sam, Neil, Luke
